DESCRIPTION
FMC Corporation was incorporated in 1928 under Delaware law. FMC is a chemical company serving agricultural, consumer and industrial markets globally with innovative solutions, applications and products. The Company operates in three distinct business segments: Agricultural Products, Specialty Chemicals and Industrial Chemicals. Its Agricultural Products segment develops, markets and sells all three major classes of crop protection chemicals - insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides - with particular strength in insecticides and herbicides. These products are used in agriculture to enhance crop yield and quality by controlling a broad spectrum of insects, weeds and disease, as well as pest control in non-agricultural markets. Its Industrial Chemicals segment manufactures a wide range of inorganic materials, including soda ash, hydrogen peroxide, specialty peroxygens and phosphorus chemicals. The alkali chemical division produces natural soda ash. Soda ash is used by manufacturers in glass, chemical processing and detergent industries. It produces hydrogen peroxide at production facilities in the United States, Canada and Mexico through its wholly-owned Foret subsidiary, in Spain and the Netherlands. It mainly participates in a joint venture company in Thailand. The Company sells hydrogen peroxide into the pulp and paper industry, and increasingly to the chemical processing, environmental, electronics and food industries. It is mainly participates in three product areas: soda ash, peroxygens and phosphorus chemicals. These products are generally inorganic and are generally commodities that, in many cases, have few cost-effective substitutes. The raw material requirements vary by business segment and include mineral-related natural resources (trona ore and lithium brines), processed chemicals, seaweed, specialty wood pulps and energy sources such as oil, gas, coal and electricity. It operates in a competitive environment. The Company is subject to various federal, state, local and foreign environmental laws and regulations that govern emissions of air pollutants, discharges of water pollutants, and the manufacture, storage, handling and disposal of hazardous substances, hazardous wastes and other toxic materials and remediation of contaminated sites.
