DESCRIPTION
| Meadowbrook Insurance Group, Inc., is a Michigan corporation organized in 1985. The Company is a specialty commercial insurance underwriter and insurance administration services company. It markets and underwrites specialty property and casualty insurance programs and products on both an admitted and non-admitted basis through a diverse network of independent retail agents, wholesalers, program administrators and general agents, who value service, specialized knowledge, and focused expertise. Through its retail property and casualty agencies, it also generates commission revenue. Its agencies are located in Michigan, California, Massachusetts, and Florida and produce commercial, personal lines, life and accident and health insurance that are placed mainly with unaffiliated insurance carriers. The Company recognizes revenue related to the services and coverages within the following categories: net earned premiums, management administrative fees, claims fees, commission revenue, net investment income, and net realized gains. The Company's products are categorized in four categories namely; Admitted Programs and Standard Market Products ;Main Street Excess and Surplus Lines; Non-Admitted Programs; and Specialty Market Products. As a provider of specialty programs, products and risk management services, the company faces a highly competitive industry that is cyclical and historically characterized by periods of high premium rates and shortages of underwriting capacity followed by periods of intense competition and excess underwriting capacity. It competes with other providers of specialty insurance programs, products, and risk management services, as well as, with traditional providers of commercial insurance. The Company’s Insurance Company Subsidiaries are subject to regulation in the states where they conduct business. |
