|American Capital Mortgage Investment Corp. was incorporated in the State of Maryland on March 15, 2011 and commenced operations on August 9, 2011 following the completion of its initial public offering. The Company invests and manages a leveraged portfolio of mortgage-related investments, including agency residential mortgage-backed securities, non-agency mortgage investments and other mortgage-related investments. Agency residential mortgage-backed securities includes residential mortgage pass-through certificates and collateralized mortgage obligations structured from residential mortgage pass-through certificates for which the principal and interest payments are guaranteed by a government-sponsored enterprise. Agency residential mortgage-backed securities also include CMOs, which are securities that are structured instruments representing interests in agency residential pass-through certificates. The agency residential mortgage-backed securities that the Company acquires provides funds for mortgage loans made to residential homeowners. Non-agency mortgage investments include residential mortgage-backed securities backed by residential mortgages that are not guaranteed by a government-sponsored enterprise or U.S. Government agency. Non-agency mortgage investments also include prime and non-prime residential mortgage loans. Non-agency mortgage investments also include Prime mortgage loans and non-prime mortgage loans. Other mortgage-related investments includes mortgage servicing rights, mortgage REIT equity securities, government-sponsored enterprise, credit risk transfer securities, commercial mortgage-backed securities, commercial mortgage loans and mortgage-related derivatives. The Company has elected to be taxed as a REIT under the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. The Company's objective is to provide attractive risk-adjusted returns to its stockholders over the long-term through a combination of dividends and net book value appreciation. Other mortgage-related investments also include mortgage servicing rights, commercial mortgage-backed securities, commercial mortgage loans, mortgage-related derivatives and other mortgage-related investments. The Company competes with mortgage REITs, mortgage finance and specialty finance companies, savings and loan associations, banks, mortgage bankers, insurance companies, mutual funds, institutional investors, investment banking firms, other lenders, governmental bodies and other entities.|
