DESCRIPTION
| Syngenta AG was formed on November 12, 1999 under the laws of Switzerland. The Company is involved in the discovery, development, manufacture and marketing products designed to improve crop yields and food quality. It is an agribusiness operating in the Crop Protection and Seeds businesses. Crop Protection chemicals include herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and seed treatments to control weeds, insects and diseases in crops, and are essential inputs enabling growers around the world to improve agricultural productivity and food quality. Many of these products also have application in the professional products sector in areas such as public health, turf and ornamental markets. The Seeds business operates in three high value commercial sectors namely seeds for field crops including corn, oilseeds, cereals and sugar beet; vegetable and flower seeds; and high-quality pot and bedding plants. Through its Business Development research, the Company is applying biotechnology to areas including biofuels. Syngenta’s business is divided into five reporting segments: the four geographic regions, Europe, Africa and Middle East (EAME), North America (NA), Latin America (LATAM) and Asia Pacific (APAC), comprising the integrated Crop Protection and Seeds business; and the global Lawn and Garden business. It develops produces and markets seeds and plants that have been developed using advanced genetics and related technologies. It sells seed products in all major territories. The Company’s flagship brands are NK(r), Golden Harvest(r), Garst(r), Hilleshog(r), S&G, Rogers(r), Zeraim Gedera(r) and Fischer(r). The Business Development business is built around a core of independent business teams with responsibilities for specific market segments. The Company is subject to regulation and numerous government approvals. |
