DESCRIPTION
| The Hershey Company was incorporated under the laws of the State of Delaware on October 24, 1927 as a successor to a business founded in 1894. The Company is the producer of quality chocolate and sugar confectionery in North America. Its product groups include chocolate and sugar confectionery products; pantry items, such as baking ingredients, toppings and beverages; and gum and mint refreshment products. It operates as a single reportable segment in manufacturing, marketing, selling and distributing its products under more than 80 brand names. Its three operating segments comprise geographic regions including the United States, the Americas, and Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The Company markets its products in approximately 70 countries worldwide. Its two strategic business units are the chocolate business unit and the sweets and refreshment business unit. These strategic business units focus on certain components of its product line and are responsible for building and leveraging Hershey’s global brands, and disseminating best demonstrated practices around the world. The Company’s customers are mainly wholesale distributors, chain grocery stores, and mass merchandisers, chain drug stores, vending companies, wholesale clubs, convenience stores, dollar stores, concessionaires and department stores. The Company’s activities are subject to regulation by various government agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Agriculture, the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Commerce and the Environmental Protection Agency, as well as various state and local agencies. |
