DESCRIPTION
| PDL BioPharma, Inc., was organized as a Delaware corporation in 1986 under the name Protein Design Labs, Inc. In 2006, the Company changed its name to PDL BioPharma, Inc. The Company is engaged in the discovery of a new generation of targeted treatments for cancer and immunologic diseases. The Company focuses on intellectual property asset management, investing in new royalty bearing assets and maximizing the value of its patent portfolio and related assets. It receives royalties based on sales of humanized antibody products marketed today and may also receive royalty payments on additional humanized antibody products launched before final patent expiry in December 2014. Under most of its licensing agreements, the Company is entitled to receive a flat-rate or tiered royalty based upon its licensees’ net sales of covered antibodies. The Company has also entered into licensing agreements under which its have licensed certain rights for development stage products that have not yet reached commercialization including products that are currently in Phase 3 clinical trials. The Company has issued patents in the United States and elsewhere, covering the humanization of antibodies, which it refers as Queen et al. patents. |
