| ARM Holdings PLC and its subsidiaries is engaged in the licensing, marketing, research and development of RISC-based microprocessors, fabric IP, video processors, physical IP and associated systems IP, software and tools. Its five market segments (Home Solutions, Mobile Solutions, Enterprise Solutions, Embedded Solutions and Emerging Applications) each demonstrate some or all of these requirements but differ in their applications In the home solutions market, the management and display of audio-visual content are the foremost concerns of consumers. Within this market, applications like digital TVs, set-top boxes, digital still cameras and gaming devices deliver visual content to the home; he mobile market comprises a wide variety of mobile communication and portable computing devices, each with their own characteristics and needs. The applications include wireless handsets, mobile computers, portable media players and bluetooth devices; In the Enterprise Solutions, the company focuses on the way data is handled through devices such as storage devices, printers and wireless and wired networking; its embedded processors is growing in multiple areas, including anti-lock braking systems, smartcards and industrial control applications; and ARM is well positioned to take advantage of these opportunities, as emerging applications such as servers, medical devices and mesh networks become available. The Company currently holds 685 US patents in various aspects of its technology, and 986 non-US patents with expiration dates ranging from 2012 to 2032. In addition, the Company has 1,100 patent applications pending worldwide. |
