DESCRIPTION
| Citizens, Inc. was formed in 1969 by its Chairman, Harold E. Riley. The Company, through its subsidiaries, provides life and health insurance policies in the United States and internationally. It primarily offers life insurance, endowments, credit insurance, final expense, and limited liability property policies. Its insurance operations are segmented into three - Life Insurance, Home Service and Other Non-Insurance Enterprises. The Life Insurance segment, through CICA Life Insurance Company of America and Citizens National Life Insurance Company, offers whole life insurance and endowment policies to high net worth and high income residents in Latin America and the Pacific Rim. This segment offers its products through independent marketing firms and consultants. Its Home Service Insurance segment focuses on the life insurance needs of the middle and lower income markets primarily in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas. This segment provides whole life and pre-need policies designed to fund final expenses for the insured primarily consisting of funeral and burial costs; and limited-liability named peril property policies covering dwellings and contents. The Home Service Insurance segment markets its policies through home service marketing distribution system; and through funeral homes and independent agents who sell policies, collect premiums, and service policyholders. Other Non-insurance Enterprises includes Computing Technology, Inc., which provides data processing services to the Company, and Insurance Investors, Inc., which provides aviation transportation to the Company. The Company derives its revenues principally from premiums earned for insurance coverage provided to insured; net investment income; and net realized capital gains and losses. |
