GeoMet was incorporated under the laws of the state of Delaware on November 9, 2000. The Company along with its subsidiaries is primarily engaged in the exploration for and development and production of natural gas from coal seams coalbed methane or CBM. All of its production is CBM, which is a dry natural gas containing no hydrocarbon liquids. The Company was originally founded as a consulting company to the coalbed methane industry in 1985 and has been active as an operator, developer and producer of coalbed methane properties since 1993. Its operations are concentrated in the central Appalachian Basin in Virginia and West Virginia. Its coalbed methane exploration and production operations are subject to significant federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the gathering and transportation of its gas production across state and federal boundaries.
