|IHS Inc. was incorporated in the state of Delaware in 1994 and completed its initial public offering on November 16, 2005. It is engaged in the provision of source of information and insight in critical areas that shape the business landscape, including energy and power; design and supply chain; defense, risk and security; environment, health, and safety and sustainability; country and industry forecasting; and commodities, pricing, and cost. The Company provides customer solutions by integrating its information with proprietary and widely used decision-support technology on scalable platforms, thus producing critical information solutions designed to meet customer needs. Its product development teams have also created proprietary web services and application interfaces that enhance access to its information. These services allow its customers to integrate the information with other data, business processes and applications such as computer-aided design, enterprise resource planning, supply chain management, and product data/lifecycle management. The Company converts raw data into information through a series of transformational steps that reduce the uncertainty that is inherent in unrefined data. Its sales teams are organized to support three geographic segments: Americas, EMEA, and APAC. The Company’s marketing teams are organized at the corporate, regional, and product levels. Its corporate team provides marketing infrastructure and tools to support increasing scale, drives alignment of its messaging strategy and value story across the business, and strategizes on new ways to reach customers through emerging social and online marketing vehicles. The Company sells its offerings primarily through subscriptions, which tend to generate recurring revenue and cash flow for it. Its subscriptions are usually for one-year periods and have historically seen high renewal rates. Subscriptions are generally paid in full within one or two months after the subscription period commences; as a result, the timing of its cash flows generally precedes the recognition of revenue and income. The Company competes with offerings from DrillingInfo, Inc., TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company, Wood Mackenzie, Ltd., Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited, Accenture, Wood Mackenzie, Ltd., McGraw-Hill, Gannett, Forecast International, and Control Risks Group, SAP and Verisk, Economist Intelligence Unit and Moody's Corporation.|
