|Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, L.P. is a Delaware limited partnership formed in August 1992. It is a pipeline transportation and energy storage company in North America, which owns and manages a portfolio of energy transportation and storage assets. The Company’s operations are conducted through its five operating limited partnerships and their subsidiaries and are grouped into five business segments: Products Pipelines; Natural Gas Pipelines; CO2; Terminals; and Kinder Morgan Canada. Products Pipelines segment consists of approximately 8,400 miles of refined petroleum products pipelines that deliver gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel and natural gas liquids to various markets; plus approximately 60 associated product terminals and petroleum pipeline transmix processing facilities serving customers across the United States. Natural Gas Pipelines segment consists of approximately 15,000 miles of natural gas transmission pipelines and gathering lines, plus natural gas storage, treating and processing facilities, through which natural gas is gathered, transported, stored, treated, processed and sold. CO2 segment produces markets and transports, through approximately 2,000 miles of pipelines, carbon dioxide to oil fields that use carbon dioxide to increase production of oil; owns interests in and/or operates ten oil fields in West Texas; and owns and operates a 450-mile crude oil pipeline system in West Texas. Terminals segment consists of approximately 115 owned or operated liquids and bulk terminal facilities and more than 35 rail transloading and materials handling facilities located throughout the United States and portions of Canada, which together transload, store and deliver a number of bulk, petroleum, petrochemical and other liquids products for customers across the United States and Canada. Kinder Morgan Canada business segment consists of over 2,500 miles of common carrier pipelines, originating at Edmonton, Alberta, for the transportation of crude oil and refined petroleum to the interior of British Columbia and to marketing terminals and refineries located in the greater Vancouver, British Columbia area and Puget Sound in Washington State, plus five associated product terminals. The Company’s operations are subject to federal, state, provincial and local laws, regulations and potential liabilities arising under or relating to the protection or preservation of the environment, natural resources and human health and safety.|
