MARKET UPDATE
[BRIEFING.COM] The major averages slipped out of the gate with the S&P 500 (-0.8%) surrendering its July gain. The benchmark index is now down 0.4% in July with today's session representing the last trading day of the month. All ten sectors began the day in the red with energy (-1.1%), health care (-0.9%), industrials (-0.8%), and consumer discretionary (-0.8%) showing noteworthy losses. Meanwhile, the financial sector is the top performer, but the second-largest group is still down 0.6% in the early going.
